Swing the Sickle Forum / Television and Film / Kings: Hollywood's Take on King David

Variety: NBC greenlights Green's 'Kings'A major network's take on a biblical story is always interesting. This is not only a "modern retelling" but David and Goliath set in a somewhat storybook (think
Pushing Daisies) present-day setting. Even more interesting this is not a made-for-TV movie or miniseries but an actual television series like the BBC's recent retelling of
Jekyll. I'm excited while at the same time apprehensive.

He said that the pilot also has elements of "new blood taking over for old power," with his hero having elements of a young Bill Clinton or JFK.
I've never pictured David as Clinton.

This sounds weird. I'm having a hard time imagining this working.

Ew. That's totally wrong.

I can really see the Bill Clinton/King David connection. They're both well-liked leaders and ladies' men.
Jekyll actually isn't modern retelling of
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide. It's a continuation of the story.
Jekyll supposes that Robert Louis Stevenson documented an actual case of Jekyll/Hide.

...are we talking about the same Bill Clinton? The one who used to be president?

Yep! His public speaking skills are exceptional. He really knows how to rouse a crowd.
He was a very down to earth president. He ate ate McDonald's. He appeared on late night talk shows.
Am I saying he was a good president? No. I am saying he's a great personality.
Was David really that great of a king?

Bill Clinton was liked plenty well in places other than Texas and Oklahoma. He wasn't actually a terrible president, just a scandalous one. He did a lot of good things while in office, and he never actually murdered anyone that we know of, unlike David. So you know, if David gets to be God's favorite and have all his songs become infallable scripture, Clinton should at least get, like, a cookie.
I hope he doesn't get to be the first First Man, though.

Now that I think of it, Clinton had Lewinsky and David had Bathsheba.

I know you weren't commenting either way on his leadership abilities, I was just surprised that you said "well-liked." I mean, I know he was elected twice, but I've just never met anyone who said that they liked him, as a person or a president.

I think we all do.

I assumed that that's what Daniel meant when he said "ladies' men."

If this were still a private forum, I would be making a terribly inappropriate comment here in response to that.

Speaking of inappropriate comments, why isn't this a private forum anymore? Just makes me nervous.
