Swing the Sickle Forum / Television and Film / Reaper: Is this a comedy?

I think I like this show. It has a good mix of wacky humor and strange drama, and the acting is surprisingly good for the CW. Woo!

I hate to apply the term "dramedy" to a show like this, because, for me, dramedy conjures images of romantic comedies and such. It no doubt mixes wacky humor and strange drama though and being supernatural strange drama, it has drawn many comparisons to Buffy. It is a hybrid drama.
Mixing comedy and drama is definitely a technique that worked well for Whedon in both Buffy and Firefly. Hybrid drama is a technique being used in other new series this season like Chuck. Reaper has its own brand of hybrid drama served up by Kevin Smith in the pilot that is instantly endearing. I loved the pilot and can't wait for the next episode. This is definitely one of my favorite new shows this season.

I really love this concept. Unfortunately, none of the episodes since the pilot have been quite as good as the pilot. The whole Sam/Andi relationship thing is just distracting. I wish Andi would just find out Sam's "secret" and get the Super Secret Superhero Syndrome out of the way. Also, I wish they would develop the supporting characters of Sock and Ben more.
The latest episode, "Leon", was probably the best since the pilot. It changed the formula up a bit. If we see more episodes like that one, this series will still have a chance.

I watched part of the last episode. It wasn't bad, but I don't think there's enough to this show to make me want to watch it regularly. And yeah, Andi is just annoying.
