Swing the Sickle Forum  /  Creative Ministry  /  Trick-or-Treat for cans

I could not beat this idea any more into the ground. This never got off the ground at school like it should have because nobody ever seemed into the idea of an easy fun way to be of service to the community.  It's easy...Trick-or-Treat on Halloween and ask for cans instead of candy.  Next day drop them off at Salvation army.  They are always in need of extra cans during the holidays and you would be more than blown away with how generous people are with cans.  But seriously, bring a truck to toss all the cans into.  Let me know if you have any questions.

My high school did this every year.  It's a lot of fun when a group dresses in costume, then goes asking for canned goods.  I'm up for doing it this year too.  We don't even have to do it halloween night.

I think this is an excellent idea. So much so that I registered the domain trickortreatforcans.com. I don't have a lot of time to devote to Swing the Sickle right now, but I would like to see the ministry (starting with this forum) slowly grow. A one to two page informational website encouraging youth groups and school groups to Trick or Treat for Cans and possibly a way to register afterwards with how many cans your group collected or to post testimonials would be a great small project to begin with. It would be both manageable as well as an awesome ministry opportunity. Swing the Sickle's main objective is to encourage creative ministry.

What do you think about the website idea? Any suggestions?

Joab - Great idea!

Matthew - Another great idea! [about the website]

With this might be a way to make "The Church" stop hating Halloween and get away from "Fall Festival" or whatever they call their Halloween alternative.

So is this going to happen?  I should be in Oklahoma for Halloween and I don't mind bringing my truck and helping out.

Wait, turns out that I won't be able to make it.  Still a good idea.
