Obscure internet celebrities aren't the only "Internet People." Politicians are getting into too.

This is the coolest presidential campaign website I have ever seen. Not to mention one of the most well-designed websites of any kind of website I have ever seen. Politicians' websites are usually bland and look like an intern banged them out some time in the mid-nineties. I've never heard of the guy, so I'm sure his chances are slim. At least when it's all over, he can know he had the coolest website of all the candidates.

Ron Paul

Wikipedia even highlights how he has effectively used the internet in his campaign:

Quoted from Wikipedia
Internet popularity

Paul has participated in five Republican presidential debates, four of which he won according to the sponsors' own online or text-message phone polls. After the first debate, ABC News noted Paul's robust online presence: "His supporters have mastered the art of 'viral marketing,' using Internet savvy and blog postings to create at least the perception of momentum for his long-shot presidential bid." U.S. News reported his increasing online popularity: "His supporters have flocked to the Internet with such enthusiasm that Paul is now showing up among the much richer candidates in various measures of Internet traffic". USA Today calls Paul an "online natural".

Paul's Internet presence has been measured as a top Internet search term by Technorati, Hitwise, and Alexa, which rank popularity in the blogosphere. While some claim that Paul's high poll rankings are skewed by a small number of supporters who are intentionally inflating the statistics, Technorati spokesman Aaron Krane affirms his company's position that Paul's search popularity is genuine to the best of their knowledge. On YouTube, Paul holds first place among all presidential candidates, measured by total number of views. Paul also claims the most YouTube subscriptions of all candidates, having surpassed Barack Obama on May 20, 2007. Paul's YouTube channel is one of the Top 40 most subscribed of all time, achieving 29,000 subscribers on September 27, 2007.

The real kudos probably goes to Terra Eclipse, the design firm that designed the website. However many thousands of dollars (I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed five or six digits) Ron Paul paid for that site, it was worth it. I like how Terra Eclipse refers to the websites they've designed as collaborative relationships with the client rather than just a website they were commissioned to design for the client. Hopefully other candidates will take notice of this firm and truly bring politics into the internet age.
